24 to 10, Lions, 11 36 left in the fourth quarter, second and goal at the Detroit four. Breece Hall took it right end and was pushed out at the four for no gain, and the play-by-play records that he was injured on the play. He did not come back: the Jets ruled him out with a thigh injury, per CBS Sports. On the next snap Geno Smith threw four yards to Jeremy Ruckert for the touchdown. Hall's last three carries had come from the Detroit 13 and the four, and gained −2, nothing and nothing.
The line: 13 carries, 32 yards, no touchdowns, four first downs, three of the 13 successful, −4.1 expected points on the carries — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Three targets, three catches, 23 yards, +2.2 expected points. The carries went two, six, three, five, −1, −2, five, two, two, 12, −2, nothing, nothing. Eight before halftime for 20 yards, five after for 12. The longest was 12 around left end from the Detroit 23 with eight 50 left in the third, to the 11; that drive ended in a field goal after two sacks. His one third-down carry converted: third and one at the Detroit 45 with 45 seconds left in the half, two yards. The three catches all came before halftime, the best of them 12 yards on third and six from the Jets 30 with eight oh nine left in the second, converted.
Hall had 13 of the Jets' 17 designed runs, and Braelon Allen the other four, three of them after Hall was hurt. His three targets were among 36 Jets throws with a receiver, 13 of them to Garrett Wilson.
Back in June the preview's worry about Hall was a three-year decline, and the sharpest part of it the receiving: catches falling from 76 to 57 to 36. Week 1 was 22 carries for a hundred two yards and a touchdown. Week 2 was 16 for 29, with five catches for 63. This week was 13 for 32 before the injury. Three games: 51 carries, a hundred 63 yards, one touchdown, and 10 targets with all 10 caught for a hundred two yards. The receiving half of the June worry has not shown up; the ground game has been hard going two weeks running, and three games settle little. The Jets are at the Bears on Sunday the fourth.
