Purdy completed 20 of 22 throws for 287 yards and two touchdowns with no interception and no sack, scrambled three times for 30 yards and a touchdown, and led touchdown drives on San Francisco's first five possessions. After halftime he was 13 of 14 for 214 yards, in a 35–13 win over the Dolphins.

14 to six, 49ers, the first snap of the second half, first and 10 at the San Francisco 35. Brock Purdy threw deep middle to George Kittle, 17 yards in the air, 40 yards to the Miami 25. +2.6 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 3.2 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Three plays later he found Kittle short left for 12 and the touchdown. It was the third of five touchdown drives on San Francisco's first five possessions.
The line: 20 completions on 22 throws, 287 yards, two touchdowns, no interception, no sacks; 22 pass plays worth +23.3 expected points. Week 1 was +4.8 on 34. The two incompletions: short left to Deebo Samuel in the first quarter, and his last play of the day, third and five at the Miami 39 with 10 45 left, an intentional grounding penalty that cost 18 yards and −2.8 expected points. Seven of eight for 73 before halftime; 13 of 14 for 214 after. Six throws the play-by-play labels deep were all caught, for a hundred 54 yards, and none of them traveled 20 yards in the air; the longest was 19. On third down he had six pass plays and converted five, the grounding the exception: 10 to Mike Evans, 16 to Christian McCaffrey, 21 to Samuel on third and 11, six to Kyle Juszczyk for the other touchdown, eight to McCaffrey. He scrambled three times for 30 yards and three first downs, +3.1 expected points: 10, 18, and two yards around left end on second and two for the touchdown that made it 14 to three with five 29 left in the half.
The ball went four times each to Samuel, McCaffrey and Kittle, three each to Demarcus Robinson and Evans, twice to Juszczyk, once to KhaDarel Hodge. Mac Jones played the final two possessions.
Back in June the preview put Purdy's whole question on durability — available for about 72 percent of San Francisco's games since 20 21, a top per-game passer priced on a nine-game season. Week 1 was a quiet 205 yards and three touchdowns, slightly negative before halftime and sharp after, and the episode asked which half would show up. Sunday was better than either. Two games, 45 of 56, 492 yards, five touchdowns, one interception, no sacks. None of that touches the durability question, which only the calendar answers. San Francisco is home to the Cardinals on Sunday the 20-seventh.
