17 to 14, 49ers, two 25 left against the Broncos, second and eight at the San Francisco 44. Brock Purdy threw short left to George Kittle three yards behind the line, and Kittle ran 59 yards after the catch for the touchdown. +5.5 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 15 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. 24 to 14.

The line: 19 of 30 for 218 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, no sacks; the thirtieth attempt was a spike. Before halftime, 10 of 15 for 89 yards and three points. After it, nine of 14 for a hundred 29, with both touchdowns. The first was third and one at the Denver one with four 22 left in the third, tied at three, short left to Deebo Samuel, on the drive that started with the fumbled Denver punt return. San Francisco's 29 pass plays came to +8.1 expected points, 5.5 of it on the Kittle play. He threw four passes 20 or more yards in the air and completed one, 24 yards to Mike Evans late in the half. Six third-down throws, two conversions. On the ground, four scrambles for 24 yards, the longest 11 on second and 11 at the Denver 18 on the touchdown drive, and a fourth-and-one sneak at the Denver 34 in the second quarter that got nothing, −3.5, San Francisco's costliest snap of the day.

The throws went eight to Evans, six each to Samuel and Kittle, five to Christian McCaffrey, two to Kyle Juszczyk, one each to Jacob Cowing and Brandin Cooks.

Back in June the preview put Purdy's question on durability. Weeks 1 through 3 were 60 of 83 for 789 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception. Four games now: 79 of a hundred 13, 1007 yards, 11 touchdowns, one interception, and not one sack in any of the four. Four starts, four wins, four full games.
