Brock Purdy's legs did more than his arm against the Commanders: 21 of 29 for 264 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions through the air, and 5 carries for 28 yards and +7.6 expected points added (EPA) on the ground. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Over his 34 dropbacks, scrambles and two sacks included, he was worth +3.8 EPA.
Two fourth downs went through him. Up 7-3 with 5:42 left in the first quarter, fourth and 3 at the Washington 11, he scrambled left for 7 yards to the 4: +3.1 EPA and +6.5 points of win probability, and Christian McCaffrey scored three snaps later. Up 13-3 with 49 seconds left in the half, fourth and 1 at the 3, he ran up the middle for 2, and McCaffrey scored on the next snap for 20-3.
His best throw set up the first of those drives: first and 10 at the San Francisco 28 with 8:43 left in the first, deep right to Mike Evans for 54 yards to the Washington 18, +3.5 EPA. His costliest was a 12-yard completion to McCaffrey in the second quarter that ended in a lost fumble, -4.4 EPA. After San Francisco went up 23-3, he was sacked twice and the offense gained 7 yards on its last 9 plays.
Per dropback it was +0.11, against +0.41 through Week 5, when he had +64.4 EPA on 156 dropbacks, and up from -0.14 in Week 5. The accuracy held: completion percentage over expected (CPOE), which compares completions with what each throw's difficulty predicts, was +7.2 against +4.7 through Week 5. The +7.6 EPA on his runs was more than the +6.3 on his 20 runs through Week 5, kneel-downs aside.
