14 to seven, Chiefs, six 10 left in the half, first and 10 at the Miami 12. Malik Willis threw short middle to Chris Bell, 11 yards in the air, and Bell took it 33 more before he was pushed out at the Kansas City 44. 44 yards, the longest Miami pass or run of the game. +2.8 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 6.6 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. The drive reached the Kansas City 28 and ended there, on Willis's fumble.
The line: seven targets, four catches, 67 yards, no touchdown, three first downs, +3.5 expected points on the targets, the most of any Dolphin. The catches went seven, four, 44 12. The seven was third and four at the Miami 15 on the first drive, converted, and that drive ended in Ollie Gordon's touchdown. The four was third and eight near midfield in the second quarter, short, and Miami failed on fourth down. The 12 was third and six at the Miami 45 with four-40 left in the third, converted. Three third-down targets, all three caught, two converted. The three incompletions were all deep — 32, 39 22 yards in the air — and one of them came on the snap right after the 44. His seven targets carried a hundred 26 air yards, the most on the team. Five targets before halftime, two after.
Seven targets on the 35 Willis credited to a receiver is a share of 20 percent. Malik Washington had 10; Bell and Greg Dulcich seven each; Kevin Coleman Jr. four; Ryan Miller and Ollie Gordon three each. Caleb Douglas, who had seven targets in Week 1, was on Miami's inactive list, per Dolphins Talk.
Back in June the preview's case for Bell was the opportunity against the knee — a third-round rookie whose last college season ended with a torn knee ligament, and a depth chart the preview said was open if the knee was ready. Week 1 answered the availability half: two targets, one catch for 25 yards. Week 2 the role half went the other way, one target in a game long decided. Sunday it came back hard, seven targets and the most valuable receiving line on the team, with one of the receivers who had been ahead of him not dressed. Three games: 10 targets, five catches, 92 yards. Three games settle little, and this one had a vacancy in it. Miami is at the Vikings on Sunday the fourth.
