Then on Saturday he sat the preseason opener against Dallas with the rest of the top four receivers, per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. A 33-year-old beating the team's top corner in practice while being handled like an untouchable starter: that is a quiet week, and for Kupp it's the good version.

The June preview said the role was the bet. Kupp's first Seattle season was 70 targets and a 16 percent share, the second receiver on the champions behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and target volume is the stickiest stat we track, so the argument was that the workload mostly holds. The argument against was just as real: he's 33, the production has slid for two straight years, and age doesn't show up in a volume stat until it suddenly does.
