Cooper Kupp — Week 2: Two Targets, Both Before Halftime

Seven to seven, 19 seconds left in the first half, second and 10 at the Seattle 26. Drew Lock threw short right to Cooper Kupp, who ran out of bounds at the Seattle 42, 16 yards. +0.4 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 4.4 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. The drive got as far as fourth and one near midfield and ended on a sack on the last snap of the half.

The line: two targets, two catches, 20 yards, one first down, +0.2 expected points on the targets, 14 air yards. The other catch was four yards over the middle on first and 10 at the Arizona 46 with eight 58 left in the second quarter. No third-down targets. Nothing after halftime, when Seattle threw 12 times and ran 25.

Two of Lock's 26 throws tied Kupp with Jadarian Price for third on the team, behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba's 11 and Rashid Shaheed's six.

Back in June the preview leaned underpriced on Kupp: the second receiver on the champions a year ago, 70 targets and 16 percent of the throws in his games, priced near the back of the board because he is 33. The thing it said to watch was the target share against that 16 percent. Week 1 was three of 24, with a touchdown taken back by an illegal shift. Sunday was two of 26. Through two games it is five of 50, 10 percent, and he has caught four of the five for 55 yards. Shaheed had three targets in Week 1 and six on Sunday, so the second spot by volume moved this week. Two games, nearly all of both with Lock at quarterback, settle little; so far the share is below the line the preview drew. Seattle is at the Commanders on Sunday the 20-seventh.
