Two were third-down catches short of the line to gain; the third, 17 yards deep right with 11 seconds left, put Houston at its own 48 before the last two throws fell incomplete, in a 19–17 loss to the Colts.

19 to 17, Colts, 11 seconds left, first and 10 at the Houston 31. C.J. Stroud threw deep right to Dalton Schultz, 17 yards in the air, and he was pushed out of bounds at the Houston 48. +10.3 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. It was Houston's last completion. The next two throws fell incomplete, and the game ended.
That was the one first down. The line: three targets, three catches, 30 yards, no touchdown, one first down, −1.0 expected points added on the targets — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. All three came after halftime; none of Stroud's 11 first-half throws went his way. The other two catches were third-down throws that came up short of the line to gain. Third and 10 from the Houston one with 10 48 left in the third, the possession after Daniel Jones was intercepted there: eight yards to the nine, and Houston punted. Third and nine at the Indianapolis 11 with eight 16 left in the fourth, down 16 to seven: five yards to the six, −0.9, and Houston kicked a 24-yard field goal.
Three targets were fourth on the team among 25 Houston throws with a receiver, behind Xavier Hutchinson's six and four each for Foster Moreau and Jared Wayne. Moreau, the other tight end thrown to, caught the touchdown. Nico Collins was out for a second straight week with a hamstring injury, per NBC Sports, and Stroud threw 27 times, down from 55 a week earlier.
Back in June the preview had Schultz eleventh among tight ends on about six targets a game, a steady short-area role, and asked how much of that volume would survive a crowded receiver room. Week 1 was eight targets and four catches. Week 2 was 14 targets, 12 catches and a hundred 40 yards, most of it with Houston two scores down in the fourth quarter. Sunday was three, a 12 percent share, with the top receiver still out. 25 targets in three games is still more than eight a game, above the rate the preview built on, and this week was the low end of it. Three games settle little. Houston is home to the Cowboys on Sunday the fourth.
