DeVonta Smith took seven-on-seven reps at the final camp practice and made a toe-tap touchdown catch, his fullest visible work since a two-week absence. He made the fifty-three-man roster listed first among six receivers, but no report has him back in full team drills through cut day.

DeVonta Smith took seven-on-seven reps at the final practice of camp and made a toe-tap touchdown catch — his fullest visible work since the two-week absence, per Jimmy Kempski at PhillyVoice. Note what that is and what it isn't: seven-on-seven, not a charted full-team session. Nobody in the reporting has used the word full, and we won't either. He did not play Friday's 30 to 13 preseason finale loss to Cincinnati, where no starters dressed, per Olivia Reiner and Jeff McLane at the Philadelphia Inquirer, and on Sunday he was on the initial 53-man roster, listed first among six receivers, per Dave Zangaro at NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The room around him is now settled, and it is deeper than the one camp described. Philadelphia kept Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown, undrafted rookie Darius Cooper and Elijah Moore, per Zangaro — Brown appears in no earlier episode of ours, and his presence changes the math on who plays behind Smith. Several other receivers came off the roster, Quez Watkins among them, per Jimmy Kempski at PhillyVoice.
So the answer to what we said we'd check: he did not graduate to full team work before the cutdown — the arrow moved to seven-on-seven and stopped being written about there — and the featured role went untested, because no source in the window charts him taking a first-team rep. For a listener new to this one: Smith's June case was a scoring rebound — 77 catches on a hundred 13 targets with only four touchdowns, the kind of suppressed rate that historically recovers — plus the number one job vacated when A.J. Brown was traded. The hamstring spent August deferring the reps that would prove the role half. The toe-tap is the best evidence yet that the deferral is ending; it is still not a team rep. We'll check back as Week One comes into focus.
