Seven to nothing, Bears, six 21 left in the second quarter, third and two at the Chicago two. Andy Dalton, in for Jalen Hurts, who the play-by-play records as injured on a scramble four snaps earlier, threw short middle for Dontayvion Wicks, two yards past the line, and Thieneman intercepted it in the end zone for a touchback. −5.6 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −13.3 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. No pass or run by either team moved win probability more all night. The drive had started at the Philadelphia three and reached the Chicago one.
The line: five targets, two catches, 32 yards, two first downs, 55 air yards, seven after the catch, −4.4 expected points on the targets, most of it the interception. The 13 was first and 10 at the Philadelphia 33 with a minute 46 left in the half, short right, pushed out at the 46, on the snap the play-by-play marks as Hurts's return, the first play of the touchdown drive. The 19 was first and 10 at the Philadelphia 30 with two 33 left in the third quarter, down 20 to seven, deep right to the 49, worth +1.3; that drive ended in Hurts's interception on fourth and five from the Chicago 46. The two incompletions from Hurts were second and one at the Chicago 10 with 34 seconds left in the half, short right, and the fourth-quarter throw: first and 10 at the Chicago 27, six 30 left, deep middle, ruled an 18-yard catch at the nine, then reversed to incomplete when Chicago challenged. Philadelphia took a false start, a sack and a scramble from there and turned it over on downs. Three targets before halftime, two after. One third-down target, the interception.
Five targets were second on the Eagles to DeVonta Smith's eight, one ahead of Makai Lemon, with Dallas Goedert inactive with a knee sprain, per PhillyVoice and NBC Sports. 32 yards were second to Smith's 65. Four of the five throws came from Hurts, one from Dalton.
Back in June the preview made no call on Wicks: three seasons in Green Bay without a defined role, a trade and an extension that said Philadelphia saw more, and the question of where he would sit against Lemon once the games counted. Week One was two catches for 73 and a touchdown. Week Two was five catches, five first downs. Monday was two of five, with the two that mattered most going against him: a pick from the two and a catch at the nine taken away on review. Three games: 15 targets, nine catches, a hundred 79 yards, one touchdown, and second on the team in targets in each of the last two. Philadelphia hosts the Rams on Sunday the fourth.
