Garrett Wilson carried the Jets' passing game against the Browns: 11 targets, 7 catches, 104 yards, 1 touchdown and +6.3 expected points added (EPA) on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Geno Smith threw for 182 yards, and 104 of them went to Wilson.
The touchdown came on the opening drive. No score, second and 10 at the Cleveland 32, 9:25 left in the first quarter: Smith threw short right and Wilson took it 32 yards into the end zone for 7-0, +3.4 EPA. He had already caught passes of 17 yards on first and 18 and 21 yards deep left on the same drive.
His biggest swing came late. Down 12-10 with 4:57 left, third and 4 at the Cleveland 49, he caught a short pass to the left for 10 yards to the 39: +1.5 EPA and +11.1 points of win probability. Smith was strip-sacked on the next snap. Third downs cut both ways: a 10-yard catch on third and 2 in the third quarter, an incompletion on third and 1 early in the fourth.
It was his second 100-yard game of the season, after 107 against the Lions in Week 3. His 55 yards after the catch topped the 41 he had across Weeks 1 through 4, when he caught 24 of 31 targets for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns at +13.3 EPA.
