13 to three, Bears, 10 58 left in the third quarter, third and four at the Chicago 33, at the end of the Jets' longest drive of the day. Geno Smith was sacked by Bush for eight yards, back to the Chicago 41. −3.2 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −8.6 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the costliest snap of the Jets' offense all day. They punted.

The line: eight of 15, a hundred 19 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, sacked three times. The Jets' 18 pass plays, sacks included, were worth −4.9 expected points. The Jets had seven third downs and threw on all seven: two sacks, three incompletions, and two completions to Garrett Wilson short of the marker. Two of those third downs came in Chicago territory and ended in field goals: the seven yards to Wilson on third and 12, and an incompletion for Sterling Shepard on third and four at the seven. The touchdown came down 23 to six with nine 25 left: first and 10 at the Jets 42, deep middle to Isaiah Williams for 58 yards, +5 point oh, but only 3.1 points of win probability. He did not throw again; Chicago held the ball for the rest of the game.

Back in June the preview had Smith as a no-call built on 17 interceptions and 55 sacks in his last season with the Raiders. This week's 15 throws were his fewest of the four games, after 24, 41 37. Four games: 85 of a hundred 17, 902 yards, five touchdowns, no interceptions, 12 sacks. The interceptions still have not come; the sacks keep coming.
