Jalen Hurts — Week 3: One Fifty-Three, One Pick

2026 NFL Season · Half-PPR Scoring · Wednesday, Sep 30

Hurts completed 16 of 25 throws for 153 yards, no touchdowns and one interception, took two sacks, and ran four times for 25 yards and the 1-yard touchdown with a second left in the half that, with the extra point, made it 10–7. The play-by-play records him injured on a scramble with 8:37 left in the second quarter and back with 1:46 left; Andy Dalton's one throw in between, from the Chicago 2, was intercepted in the end zone, in a 27–7 loss to the Bears.

10 to nothing, Bears, a minute 46 left in the second quarter, first and 10 at the Philadelphia 33. Jalen Hurts had left the game with eight 37 left in the quarter, injured on a scramble that a pair of offsetting penalties wiped out, and the play-by-play marks his return on this snap. 13 yards to Dontayvion Wicks, five to DeVonta Smith, 30 to Smith deep right to the Chicago 19, nine to Zach Ertz, an incompletion, a one-yard scramble on third and one, eight to Smith at the one, and then, no huddle, second and one with a second left, Hurts up the middle for the touchdown. +3.2 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 1.6 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Eight plays, 67 yards, 10 to seven at the half. While he was out, Andy Dalton's one throw, third and two at the Chicago two, was intercepted in the end zone.

The line: 16 completions on 25 throws, a hundred 53 yards, no touchdown passes, one interception, two sacks for 12 yards, and −14.5 expected points on his 27 pass plays. 10 of 13 for a hundred 11 before halftime; six of 12 for 42 after, with both sacks. The interception was fourth and five at the Chicago 46 with 27 seconds left in the third quarter, down 20 to seven, short left for Smith, picked off at the 42, and Chicago's touchdown drive followed. On third down he had six pass plays, four completions and one first down, the 13-yarder to Smith on third and one, and he converted one more himself, the scramble on third and one at the Chicago 10. Two throws traveled 20 or more yards in the air: the 30 to Smith, and the last snap of the Eagles' night, fourth and 22 at the Chicago 39, deep right for Makai Lemon, incomplete. The running was four carries for 25 yards, three first downs and the touchdown, 20 of the yards on a fourth-quarter scramble.

His 25 throws went eight to Smith, four each to Lemon and Wicks, two each to Saquon Barkley, Ertz and Will Shipley, one each to Johnny Mundt and Tank Bigsby, and one with no receiver. 14 pass plays before halftime and 14 after, against 12 designed runs and four. Philadelphia's passing game as a whole, Dalton's throw included, came out at −20.1 expected points on 28 pass plays, last of the 32 teams this week. The Eagles converted two of nine third downs, both his.

Back in June the preview made no call on Hurts: the floor was the running, the goal-line carries above all, and the loss of A.J. Brown capped the passing without touching that floor. Week One was three touchdown passes. Week Two was two interceptions and then a winning drive. Monday was the fewest passing yards of his three starts, one interception, and the one-yard run from the one that the preview described as the surest thing he does. Three games: 620 passing yards, five touchdown passes, three interceptions, 87 rushing yards and a rushing score. The floor showed up in Chicago; the passing did not, against a defense that finished the week first against the pass. Philadelphia hosts the Rams on Sunday the fourth.
