Jalen Hurts made one big throw against the Jaguars and too few small ones: 21 of 40, 220 yards, 1 touchdown, no interceptions, 1 sack. He was worth -1.6 expected points added (EPA) on 42 dropbacks, -0.04 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

The big one came at 7-7 with 5:41 left in the second quarter. Third and 10 at the Philadelphia 38: Hurts threw deep right and Darius Cooper caught it for a 62-yard touchdown, +6.7 EPA and +22.4 points of win probability. That made it 14-7, and Philadelphia did not score another touchdown.

The second half stalled on the downs that decide drives. Up 14-10 with 3:51 left in the third quarter, fourth and 3 at the Jacksonville 43, his short throw to Makai Lemon fell incomplete with Travis Hunter on the play: -2.2 EPA. Three of his four fourth-quarter third downs came up short.

The last drive moved. Down 16-14 from his own 38 with 1:35 left, he converted third and 5 to Dontayvion Wicks, hit Dallas Goedert for 17 yards to the Jacksonville 34, and a 7-yarder to Lemon reached the 27 with 21 seconds left.

His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how often he completed passes against what their difficulty predicted, was -11.1, after +1.0 through Week 4. Per dropback he was a little better than Weeks 1 through 4: -7.7 EPA on 137 dropbacks, -0.06 each. 40 attempts were his most this season.
