Jaxon Smith-Njigba had his seventh 100-yard game in eight against the Bears: 11 targets, 6 catches, 118 yards, a touchdown and +6.0 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, in a 34-17 loss at home.
The touchdown came down 13-3 with 37 seconds left in the half. Third and 10 at the Chicago 43, Sam Darnold went deep left and Smith-Njigba caught it for the score: +5.4 EPA and 14.8 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win, the largest swing of the game. In the first quarter he caught a 21-yarder to the Chicago 33 and a 16-yarder to the 9 on the drive that ended in Seattle's field goal.
One catch did not count. Down 20-9 late in the third, second and 8 at the Chicago 11, he caught a 10-yarder to the 1, and an offensive pass interference call on him took it back; the drive ended in a blocked field goal. Five of his targets fell incomplete, the last on third and 4 at the Chicago 7 with 2:25 left.
Per target it was below his pace. Through Week 7 he had 58 catches on 78 targets for 867 yards, 8 touchdowns and +58.6 EPA, +0.75 a target; here it was +0.54. His only game under 100 yards this season is Week 4's 76.
