Jaylen Warren had his biggest rushing day of the season against the Browns: 17 carries, 143 yards, a touchdown and +5.2 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. That is +0.31 a carry, and 10 of the 17 were successful carries, meaning they gained what the situation asked for, 58.8%. His previous high was 127 yards, against the Bengals in Week 3.
The run that defined it came up 7-0 with 4:17 left in the first quarter. Third and 13 at the Pittsburgh 24, a down built for a punt, he went up the middle for 51 yards to the Cleveland 25: +5.1 EPA and 8.7 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. The drive reached the 2, where he was stopped for no gain on third down, and Pittsburgh kicked a field goal. With 40 seconds left in the half his 23-yarder up the middle started the drive that ended in Pat Freiermuth's touchdown, and in the third he scored from the 1, one snap after Darnell Washington's 58-yard catch, for 27-6.
The passing game got little from him: 2 targets, 1 catch for no gain and -2.9 EPA, most of it an incompletion on third and 7 on the first drive.
On the ground it was the best of his season. Through Week 7 he had 102 carries for 561 yards, 1 touchdown, +10.0 EPA, +0.10 a carry and a 46.1% success rate; here he added half that EPA in one game, at three times the rate.
