Wright carried twice for 11 yards on consecutive second-quarter snaps, 8 on second and 10 from the San Francisco 17 and 3 on third and 2 for a first down at the 6, and returned three first-half kickoffs for 79 yards. De'Von Achane carried 20 times and Ollie Gordon 3, in a 35–13 loss to the 49ers.

Seven to nothing, 49ers, 13 11 left in the second quarter, second and 10 at the San Francisco 17. Jaylen Wright went behind the right guard for eight. On third and two at the nine he went up the middle for three and the first down at the six. +0.3 and +1.0 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 2.6 and 2.1 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Those were his two carries. The next handoff, first and goal, went to De'Von Achane for no gain, Malik Willis was sacked on the next two snaps, and Miami kicked a field goal.
The line, all of it: two carries, 11 yards, one first down, both carries successful, +1.3 expected points; no targets; three kickoff returns for 79 yards. The returns were the opening kickoff, 27 yards to the Miami 33; 16 to the 27 after San Francisco's first touchdown; and 36 from the one to the 37 with five 24 left in the half. His name is not in the play-by-play after that. The three second-half kickoffs were returned by Malik Washington.
The split: Achane 20 designed runs for 74 yards, Ollie Gordon three for seven, Wright two for 11. Gordon had a fourth carry erased by a penalty. Miami ran 19 designed runs before halftime and nine after, one of the nine a fumbled punt snap.
Back in June the preview called Wright a watchlist — a handcuff whose per-game number a year ago leaned on one feature game, behind a starter who had just signed long-term, competing with Gordon for the change-of-pace work — and said the road to a real workload runs through someone else's body. Week 1 was one carry for −1 and a 79-yard kickoff return. Sunday was two carries that both worked, in the red zone, and then nothing, while Gordon got one more handoff than he did. Two games, three carries, and Achane has 31. Nothing here moves the handcuff read. Miami is home to the Chiefs on Sunday the 20-seventh.
