Jonathan Taylor gained real yards against the Titans, but one carry outweighed the rest: 21 carries, 94 yards, 1 touchdown and -4.8 expected points added (EPA) on the ground. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Only 38% of his carries gained positive EPA.

That carry was the first snap of the second half, up 13-0. First and 10 at the Indianapolis 28: Taylor ran right for 4 yards and Jeffery Simmons forced the fumble and recovered it at the Indianapolis 33. It cost -5.5 EPA, more than his whole rushing total, and Tennessee kicked a field goal off it for 13-3.

He answered late. Down 20-13 in the fourth quarter, he caught a short pass for 19 yards to the Tennessee 17 (+1.3 EPA), ran 9 yards to the 8, and three snaps later took second and 4 from the 4 around left end for the touchdown with 5:36 left, +1.5 EPA and +12.2 points of win probability. The extra point tied it at 20. His best play came in the second quarter at 0-0, a 38-yard catch to the Tennessee 28 worth +2.9 EPA; in all, his 4 targets were worth +3.2 EPA.

The volume held against his own season. Through Week 5 he had 101 carries, 398 yards, 6 touchdowns and +2.8 EPA, 41% of carries positive, and no lost fumbles on the ground.
