  Alec Pierce just went for a thousand yards and led the entire NFL in yards per catch — for the second straight season. He's the 30-fifth receiver off the board. The market sees a one-trick deep threat; the data sees a thousand-yard producer at a discount. The Muffed 2026 preview.

  The 2025 season was a career year: 47 catches for a thousand three yards and six touchdowns, 10-seven a game, WR21 per game and WR24 in total — at a remarkable 21.3 yards per catch, the most explosive profile in football. The signature was a four-catch, a hundred 32-yard, two-touchdown bomb-fest against Houston in Week 18. The catches are few; the yards, somehow, are not.

  The arc is a steady climb into a defined role: five-seven a game, then four-seven, then eight-nine, and now 10-seven. He's grown every year into the field-stretcher on a real offense, and Indianapolis just paid him like a cornerstone.

  What the data says, fairly on both sides: the profile is inherently volatile — five and a half targets a game, with value that rides on deep completions, the least stable thing a receiver does year to year. That's the honest risk. But here's the counter the price ignores: he's done it two seasons running, leading the league in yards per catch both times, and his production held regardless of which quarterback was throwing — it's a repeatable skill, not a one-year fluke. A thousand-yard receiver who finished WR21 per game shouldn't be the 30-fifth off the board.

  The situation, per the reports, now leads with his own ankle: Pierce had a spring cleanup procedure on the ankle he played through last season, did no on-field work in the offseason program, and Shane Steichen's line is a return "at some point in training camp" — some reporting stretches that to well into camp. The quarterback side is the good news: Daniel Jones parlayed the career year into a two-year, 88-million-dollar deal, is ahead of schedule on the Achilles — throwing in seven-on-sevens by OTAs — and expects to be a hundred percent for Week One. And Indianapolis told you what it thinks of Pierce before the surgery: a four-year extension in March, reported around a hundred 14 million. The connection that set career highs is paid, on both ends; it just needs both bodies on the field.

  The price: pick 84, the 30-fifth receiver. Verdict: LEAN — underpriced. A two-time league leader in yards per catch coming off a thousand-yard, WR21-per-game season, priced WR35, is the market over-discounting a volatile profile. The counter: the week-to-week floor is genuinely low — a five-target deep threat will give you duds — and now the ankle adds a camp question the old version of this call didn't carry. But at this price, the discount covers both.
