Jordan Love smashed the Bears: 25 of 31, 367 yards, 2 touchdowns, no interceptions. He was worth +17.2 expected points added (EPA) on 35 dropbacks, +0.49 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

The defining throw came early in the third quarter, up 14-7. Third and 22 at his own 47, 13:19 left: Love threw deep over the middle to Christian Watson, who scored from 53 yards out. That was +5.9 EPA and +12.4 points of win probability, the biggest swing of the game. His first touchdown, 42 yards deep left to Watson, broke a 0-0 tie in the first quarter.

The deep ball kept landing after that: 46 yards to Tucker Kraft late in the third quarter, then 36 and 50 to Matthew Golden. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how often he completed passes against what their difficulty predicted, was +16.2. Chicago's two sacks both came in the last 39 seconds of the first half.

It was a different quarterback from the one in his baseline. Weeks 1 through 4 brought +4.6 EPA on 162 dropbacks, +0.03 per dropback, a CPOE of -7.0 and 3 interceptions; he completed 87 of 154. The 367 yards trailed only his 387 in Week 1, which took 42 attempts.
