Jordan Love built the Packers a 17-0 halftime lead against the Cowboys and played above his own season pace doing it: 23 of 41, 276 yards, a touchdown, an interception and 3 sacks. He was worth +6.1 expected points added (EPA) on 44 dropbacks, +0.14 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. He also ran 4 times for 12 yards and a touchdown, +3.6 EPA on the ground.
Third downs carried the opening drive at 0-0. On third and 13 at the Green Bay 27, 8:58 left in the first quarter, he threw deep to Christian Watson for 27 yards, +3.5 EPA and +8.4 points of win probability; on third and 6 at the Dallas 9 he hit Matthew Golden for the touchdown.
He closed the half the same way: up 10-0 with 42 seconds left, a 21-yard throw to Golden on third and 6 reached the 2, and Love sneaked in for 17-0.
The costly snap came at 7-0 with 1:53 left in the first quarter. Second and 12 at the Green Bay 39, a short pass for Golden was intercepted by Dee Winters at the 42, -4.5 EPA and -10.1 points of win probability. Winters' touchdown return was reversed on replay, and Dallas gave the ball back on an interception at the 3.
His efficiency beat his own pace: through Week 5 he had +21.8 EPA on 197 dropbacks, +0.11 per dropback. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how often he completed passes against what their difficulty predicted, was -5.8, after -3.1 through Week 5.
