The NFL placed Josh Jacobs on the Commissioner's Exempt List on Sunday, following his arrest in Wisconsin in May and misdemeanor charges filed Thursday. He cannot practice or play while on the list, his time on it is indefinite, and the roster Green Bay announced the same day lists him apart from the fifty-three.

The NFL placed Josh Jacobs on the Commissioner's Exempt List on Sunday, per Kevin Patra at NFL.com. Jacobs was arrested in Wisconsin in May and was formally charged on Thursday with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property, from an alleged altercation with his girlfriend, per Patra. While on the list Jacobs cannot practice or play, he continues to be paid, his time on it is indefinite, and the league can still suspend him, per Ryan Young at Yahoo Sports. Jacobs denies the allegations, and his representation called the placement "an administrative procedure used by the NFL while a matter is being reviewed," per Young.
The week's record, in order. On Wednesday, general manager Brian Gutekunst said the team had "obviously been preparing for that in case that happens. But at the same time, I feel really good about the guys we have in that room," per Young. Jacobs did not play in Friday's preseason finale — Kyle McCord played the whole game and no starters appear in the beat's account of it, per Mike Spofford at packers.com — and head coach Matt LaFleur said afterward, "I fully anticipate him being a member of our team," per Spofford. Sunday brought the placement, and the same day Green Bay acquired running back Kaleb Johnson from Pittsburgh for a sixth-round pick in the 20 28 draft, per Evan Siegle at packers.com. The roster the team announced Sunday lists Jacobs separately from the 53, under the exempt list, and carries three running backs: Chris Brooks, MarShawn Lloyd and Johnson, the last of those pending a physical, per Wes Hodkiewicz at packers.com.
One correction to our own file. Our August coverage — including our August 20-third episode — framed Jacobs as a routine veteran returning from a groin injury, and the fact that governed this week, a May arrest and a pending league review, was not in it. The question that episode asked, whether he would take any finale snaps before the opener, is answered and moot: he did not, and he now cannot practice or play at all. We'll report the next attributed development when it comes.
