Kyle Pitts led Atlanta's fourth-quarter comeback against the Bears, even if it fell short: 7 targets, 5 catches, 60 yards, 2 touchdowns and +6.2 expected points added (EPA) on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
The first touchdown started the rally. Down 31-7 with 10:41 left, first and 10 at the Chicago 43, he caught a short pass to the right and was pushed out at the 14 after 29 yards, +1.9 EPA. Three snaps later, on third and 6 at the 10, Michael Penix Jr. threw short left and Pitts scored, +2.9 EPA. Zachariah Branch caught the two-point try for 31-15.
He finished the next drive too. Third and 9 at the Chicago 15, 6:10 left: a 10-yard catch to the 5, +2.0 EPA. On the next snap he caught a 5-yard touchdown, and Drake London's two-point catch made it 31-23.
The win-probability gains were small, since Atlanta trailed by 24 when the run began. His day started badly as well: down 7-0 in the first quarter, a third-and-9 throw to him fell incomplete, -1.5 EPA.
It is still the best game of his season by a distance. Through Week 5 he had 15 targets, 10 catches, 109 yards, 1 touchdown and -0.4 EPA, and his 60 yards topped his previous high of 47 in Week 4.
