12 to seven, Giants, three 16 left in the fourth quarter, third and five at the Tennessee 41. Jameis Winston threw short right for Malik Nabers, and Franklin-Myers broke it up. −1.4 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −4.2 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. A delay-of-game flag turned fourth and five into fourth and 10, New York punted, and Tennessee got the ball back with three oh three left and drove to the Giants seven before Jevon Holland's interception ended it. Nabers had started that Giants possession: 12 yards short right on first and 10 from the New York 42, the first snap after the Titans' touchdown.
The line: six targets, five catches, 26 yards, two first downs, −2.9 expected points on the targets, the lowest figure among Giants pass-catchers. Five air yards on the six targets and 21 after the catch. The catches: no gain on second and eight at the Tennessee 26 in the first quarter, then five on third and eight to the 21, three short, and a 39-yard field goal; −1 on third and eight at the Tennessee eight in the second quarter, and a 27-yard field goal; 10 on third and 10 from the New York 49 with 32 seconds left in the half, exactly the line to gain, on the drive that ended in the field goal that made it nine to nothing at the break; and the 12. Four third-down targets, three caught, one converted. Four targets before halftime, two after.
Six targets led the Giants, 29 percent of Winston's 21 throws that had a receiver. Isaiah Likely had five, Cam Skattebo four, Darnell Mooney three, Malachi Fields two, Odell Beckham one. It was Winston's first start of the season, with Jaxson Dart on injured reserve after his Week 2 knee injury, per the Giants' team site, and New York's hundred net passing yards were the fewest of the 28 teams that had played by Sunday night.
Back in June the preview put Nabers on the watchlist — a hundred nine catches and 1200 yards as a rookie, then four games and a torn knee ligament last year, with a 27 percent target share in those four — and said availability first, then the explosiveness when he returned. Week 1 was nine targets, 69 yards and the biggest throw of the night. Week 2 was four targets, one catch, one yard. Sunday sat between them: six targets, the team lead again, and five catches that averaged just over five yards. He has played all three games, which answers the first half of the June question. The explosiveness has not shown up since the opener; his longest catch in the last two games is 12 yards. Three games: 19 targets, 12 catches, 96 yards. New York is home to the Cardinals on Sunday the fourth.
