Matthew Golden was the Packers' busiest receiver against the Cowboys and scored their first touchdown: 6 catches on 13 targets, 104 yards, 1 touchdown, +1.5 expected points added (EPA). EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. The 13 targets were one more than his previous high of 12, in Weeks 1 and 3.
The opening drive was his. At 0-0, second and 10 at the Dallas 46, 7:47 left in the first quarter, Jordan Love threw deep to the left and Golden ran 37 yards before he was pushed out at the 9, +2.0 EPA and +7.6 points of win probability. A taunting penalty on him cost 15 yards, and the Packers worked back to third and 6 at the 9. Love threw short over the middle, and Golden caught it for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead, +2.8 EPA.
He set up the second touchdown too. Up 10-0 with 42 seconds left in the half, third and 6 at the Dallas 23, his 21-yard catch reached the 2, +2.4 EPA, and Love sneaked in for 17-0. In the fourth quarter he added 21 yards on second and 12 and 12 yards on third and 5.
The cost sat in the misses. Seven targets fell incomplete or worse, and Love's interception came on a short throw for him at 7-0 late in the first quarter, -4.5 EPA. Through Week 5 he had 44 targets, 24 catches, 397 yards and 2 touchdowns, with 123 yards in Week 5.
