Michael Penix Jr. was efficient against the Saints in his second start: 15 of 20, 223 yards, 1 touchdown, no interceptions, 1 sack. He was worth +10.6 expected points added (EPA) on 21 dropbacks, +0.51 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

The defining throw answered the Saints. New Orleans had scored to make it 31-17 early in the fourth quarter. After Kyle Pitts turned a short pass into 28 yards, Penix went deep middle on first and 10 from the New Orleans 31 and hit Jahan Dotson for the touchdown, the ball travelling 31 yards in the air. That was +3.0 EPA, his most valuable snap, and 38-17.

Atlanta ran 33 times, so 20 throws were enough. Six went to Drake London for 96 yards. Penix's completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how much more often he completed passes than their difficulty predicted, was +1.8.

Against his own season, Monday was better than his first start: +9.5 EPA on 25 dropbacks against the Packers, +0.38 per dropback. The Falcons' passers in Weeks 1 and 2 combined for -40.8 EPA on the pass. Two starts: 33 of 45, 479 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception.
