Michael Penix moved the ball against the Ravens without turning it over: 19 of 32, 240 yards, 1 touchdown, no interceptions, 3 sacks. He was worth +5.9 expected points added (EPA) on 37 dropbacks, +0.16 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.

The drive that defined his day came late in the first half. Up 7-6 with 4:34 left, third and 6 at the Baltimore 42, he threw deep right to Jahan Dotson for 36 yards to the Baltimore 6: +3.5 EPA and +7.6 points of win probability. Three snaps later, on third and goal from the 5, he hit Kyle Pitts over the middle for the touchdown and a 14-6 lead.

Third down was where he did his work. He converted third and 15 with a 19-yarder to Drake London early in the fourth quarter and third and 10 with a 23-yarder to Zachariah Branch at 20-15. The miss that hurt most was fourth and 2 at the Baltimore 39 late in the third quarter, up 17-15: a short pass to Charlie Woerner was ruled complete, then reversed to incomplete on review, -12.8 points of win probability.

With 27 seconds left in regulation at 23-23, he was sacked for a 10-yard loss and hurt on the play, and returned for one more snap. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), how often he completed passes against what their difficulty predicted, was -5.0, after +5.5 in Weeks 3 and 4, when he averaged +0.43 EPA per dropback on 47 dropbacks.
