Mike Washington carried the load against the Jets: 25 carries, 83 yards and -2.3 expected points added (EPA), after never having more than 9 carries in a game this season. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. Eight of the 25 were successful runs, 32%, meaning they gained what the situation asked for.
His best stretch opened the third quarter, down 23-14: 15 yards around left end, then 9 and 5 to the Jets' 5, three carries worth +2.6 EPA on the drive that ended in Brock Bowers's touchdown. The run that hurt came down 30-28 early in the fourth. His 4-yarder on second and 2 had reached the 1, and on first and goal Darrell Jackson Jr. and Nate Lynn dropped him for a 3-yard loss, -0.9 EPA and 5.2 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. The Raiders scored on third down anyway.
Up 35-33 with 4:31 left, he ran six times on the last drive for 22 yards, 8 and 7 on the first two, and the drive ran down to 31 seconds before Matt Gay's 53-yard field goal.
Per carry it was a shade better than his season. Through Week 7 he had 40 carries for 195 yards and -5.1 EPA, -0.13 a carry; here it was -0.09.
