Quinshon Judkins returned to practice Monday, per Athlon Sports, closing the nagging-injury question a day after our last episode aired, and the initial fifty-three the Browns announced Sunday lists him among four running backs. No account of Thursday's preseason finale places him in it, so his first live contact since last season's injury comes when the games count.

Quinshon Judkins returned to practice on Monday, per Daniel Dobish at Athlon Sports — the earliest day the week could have delivered that answer, and the single fact this file was waiting on. Dobish's piece has Todd Monken characterizing the injury as undisclosed and the team as cautious; no body part has been named for the August issue at any point, and nothing on the record connects it to last season. That last part matters because Dobish's report also gets specific about the old injury in a way the beat previously hadn't: he describes Judkins' rookie season ending with a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula in Week 16 against Buffalo, requiring surgery. That is a reporter's characterization, and any link between that ankle and this August is unreported.
Cut day then did what cut day was always going to do. Judkins is on the initial 53 the Browns announced Sunday, listed among four running backs — Judkins, Dylan Sampson, Raheim Sanders and fullback Michael Burton — per the team's announcement at ClevelandBrowns.com. The room thinned behind him: running backs Davon Booth and Ahmani Marshall were among the 16 players waived, per the same announcement, and Booth had scored an eight-yard touchdown in Thursday's finale three days earlier, per Scott Petrak at BrownsZone.
What the week did not produce is a preseason touch. No account of the 37 to 13 win over New England places Judkins in the game in any capacity — unreported, which is not the same as sitting — and that means the pattern held all August: his first contact since the surgery comes when the games count. For the record, the season that workload resumes from: 827 rushing yards on 230 carries with seven touchdowns as a rookie.
Back in June we called Judkins solved and his health the one personal risk, and a week ago that risk had reopened a crack — two missed practices, a missed game, "a little something nagging" in Monken's words, per Petrak. The crack closed within a day of that episode publishing. What remains open is only the ramp: a lead back entering Week One without a live rep since last December. We'll pick this up as the opener comes into focus.
