Seven all against the Steelers, nine 12 left in the second quarter, second and five at the Pittsburgh nine. Deshaun Watson threw short left to Quinshon Judkins, and Judkins carried it seven yards to the two. +1.3 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. On the next snap Judkins went behind the right guard for the touchdown, his first of the season, and Cleveland led 14 to seven. On the next Cleveland possession he reached the Pittsburgh one on a four-yard catch, then lost a yard on second and goal; Harold Fannin scored on the snap after that.
The line: 17 carries, 53 yards, one touchdown, −2.1 expected points on the carries; seven targets, six catches, 43 yards, +2.8 on the targets. 12 of the 17 carries gained three yards or fewer. The longest were two nines in the third quarter, on second and three and second and four, both first downs, on the drive that ended in Watson's fumble at midfield. A seven-yarder on third and two opened the fourth quarter and converted. The catches went 12 over the short middle on the drive that tied the game, seven to the two, nine and four on the drive to Fannin's touchdown, 10 on second and 14 in the fourth, and one late.
17 of Cleveland's 25 rush plays were his; Raheim Sanders had two and Jaleel McLaughlin one, the 28-yard touchdown. His seven targets tied Denzel Boston for second on the Browns, behind KC Concepcion's eight.
Back in June the preview called Judkins a real workhorse, with a ceiling that depended on the offense around him. The first three weeks were 42 carries, a hundred 24 yards, no touchdown and nine catches. Thursday added 17 carries, the first touchdown and six catches. Four games: 59 carries, a hundred 77 yards, three yards a carry. The workload has held at 17 or 18 carries for two weeks. The yards per carry have not moved, and the catches are new.
