Henderson carried 8 times for 23 yards, all before halftime, with a long of 5, no first downs and one successful carry, and caught his one target for 6. He had no touch after the break; Rhamondre Stevenson took four second-half carries and Corey Kiner six, in a 35–6 loss to the Jaguars.

14 to three, Jaguars, two minutes left in the first half, first and 10 at the Jacksonville 18. TreVeyon Henderson went left guard for four yards to the 14. It was his eighth carry of the day and his last touch of it. On the next snap Drake Maye scrambled to the six, and three snaps after that Travis Hunter intercepted Maye in the end zone. Henderson did not carry or catch the ball again.
The line: eight carries, 23 yards, no touchdown, no first downs, and −2.4 expected points added on the carries — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, and a negative total means the runs lost ground against what the situations expected. One of the eight was successful by that measure: five yards on first and 10 at the Jacksonville 28 with two 41 left in the half. The carries went three, one, four, four, one, one, five, four. Two fours on first and second down from the Jacksonville 45 in the first quarter moved the Patriots to the 37; Stevenson converted the third down, and Maye was sacked and fumbled on the next snap. A one-yarder on second and four at the New England 26 came before a third-down sack and a punt. His one target was the first Patriots snap after Jacksonville's opening touchdown, first and 10 at the New England 20, short middle for six.
The split: New England ran 23 designed runs. Before halftime Henderson had eight of the 12. After it he had none of the 11: Stevenson carried four times on the opening drive of the third quarter, Maye once, and Corey Kiner six times in the fourth with the Patriots down 29. The play-by-play gives no reason. Even so, eight carries and 23 yards were the most of any Patriot, one each ahead of Stevenson's seven for 22. One target out of 30 New England throws that had a receiver.
Back in June the preview put Henderson on the watchlist: one of the 10 most efficient runners in football as a rookie, but on a role that was trending toward Stevenson. He was inactive in Week 1 with an ankle injury, per the Patriots' website. Week 2 was his season debut, 16 carries for 76 yards and a 39-yard touchdown, with the other 15 carries gaining 37. Sunday was eight for 23 and nothing after halftime. Two games, 24 carries, 99 yards; take out the one long run and it is 23 carries for 60. The per-carry efficiency the preview called elite has shown up once so far, and the split has gone from 16 to six in his favor to eight to seven in a week. Two games settle little about either. New England is at the Bills on Sunday the fourth.
