Seven to seven against the Bills, 14 10 left in the second quarter, second and 10 at the New England 40. TreVeyon Henderson went around left end for 11 yards to the Buffalo 49 and a first down. +1.3 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — his best carry of the day, on a drive that ended when Drake Maye was strip-sacked at the Buffalo 30.

The line: 14 carries, 42 yards, no touchdown, two first downs, five of the 14 successful, −1.9 expected points on the carries, a negative total meaning the runs lost ground against what the situations expected. The carries went one, three, 11, three, nothing, three, one, six, nothing, eight, one, eight, −5 two. The six took the ball to the Buffalo two in the third quarter, and Romeo Doubs caught the touchdown three snaps later. The −5 was second and two at the New England 44 midway through the fourth, up one, and the drive ended in a punt. Two targets, both incomplete.

The split: 33 New England rush plays. Henderson had 14, Rhamondre Stevenson 13, and Maye six, four of them scrambles. Stevenson had the touchdown and two third-and-one carries.

Back in June the preview put Henderson on the watchlist: an efficient rookie season, on a role trending toward Stevenson. He did not play in Week 1, then had 16 carries in Week 2 and eight in Week 3, 24 for 99 yards. Sunday's 14 edged Stevenson's 13. Three games: 38 carries, a hundred 41 yards, one touchdown, and the split still close to even.
