Tucker Kraft caught four passes on Sunday and two of them count. The two that do not were both nine yards. The first was third and 19 at the Green Bay 28, eight 44 left in the third quarter, tied at seven: Jordan Love short left to Kraft to the 37, 10 yards short of the marker, and a flag for illegal use of hands on David Bailey that wiped the play and gave Green Bay five yards and a first down instead. The second was first and 20 at the Green Bay 42 with nine 51 left in the fourth, down 17 to seven: short right to the New York 49, and an illegal formation penalty on Green Bay took it back.
The line that stands: three targets, two catches, 15 yards, no touchdowns, no first downs, −0.2 expected points added on the targets — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. The first catch was second and 18 at the Green Bay 38 with five 12 left in the second quarter, tied at seven, short right; he fumbled at the end of it and recovered the ball himself, five yards in the book, and the Jets challenged the recovery and lost. The second was 10 yards short middle on second and 13 at the Green Bay 24 with a minute 46 left in the third, down 14 to seven, which set up a third and three that fell incomplete. The third target was first and 10 at the New York 25 with nine 19 left in the fourth, short middle, incomplete, on the drive that ended in Christian Watson's touchdown. None of the three came on third down. He was flagged for holding with 11 oh five left in the third, which cost 10 yards from the Green Bay 37.
Three targets tied him with Skyy Moore for third on the team, behind 11 to Watson and six to Matthew Golden, on a day Love threw 29 times. One target before halftime, two after.
Back in June the preview called Kraft a watchlist: the fifth tight end off the board, a top-two per-game rate across eight games before a torn knee ligament in November, with the knee, the snap count and a 30 percent touchdown share as the things to watch. Week 1 was six targets, three catches and 65 yards in his first game back. Sunday was half the targets and less than a quarter of the yards, with 18 more yards erased by flags. He has played both games, which is the part of the June question the play-by-play can see, and he has not scored. Nine targets in two games does not settle a role either way. Green Bay is home to the Falcons on Thursday the 20-fourth.
