Allgeier led Arizona with 17 carries for 61 yards and no touchdowns, nine of the carries in the fourth quarter; his one carry inside the ten, first and goal at the Chargers three with 12:21 left, went for no gain, and Trey McBride scored on the next snap. He caught both of his targets for nine yards in a 26–14 win over the Chargers.

16 to 14, Cardinals, 12 21 left in the fourth quarter, first and goal at the Chargers three. Tyler Allgeier went up the middle and got nothing, −0.4 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −1 point of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. On the next snap, second and three, Jacoby Brissett threw three yards short left to Trey McBride for the touchdown, 23 to 14. That was Allgeier's one carry inside the 10 all day. His biggest by expected points came earlier: first and 10 at the Chargers 25 with eight 48 left in the third, up 13 to seven, 11 yards around right end, +0.7; the next play went for −1, and the drive ended in a field goal.
The line: 17 carries, 61 yards, no touchdowns, two first downs, seven of the 17 successful, −3.0 expected points on the carries. Six carries before halftime for 19 yards, 11 after for 42, nine of those in the fourth quarter for 32. The fourth-quarter work came in two possessions. The first started at the Arizona five with nine 39 left, after Justin Herbert's interception: two, four, seven, seven and four yards, before a third-and-two sack ended it at the 39. The second started at the Chargers 38 with four oh nine left, up 23 to 14: two, three, and three more on third and five, all up the middle, and Arizona kicked the field goal that made it 26 to 14. That third-and-five was his one third-down carry, and it did not convert; the two-yarder that opened the possession was his worst by expected points, −1.5. He was thrown to twice, both before halftime, and caught both, for five and four.
The split: Allgeier 17, the most on the team, Jeremiyah Love 11, Brissett three, one of them a scramble. Arizona ran 14 designed runs before halftime and 16 after, and Allgeier had six of the 14 11 of the 16. James Conner is on injured reserve, per Josh Alper at Pro Football Talk.
Back in June the preview made no call on Allgeier — the 40-eighth running back at pick one 52, a price it said had already paid for the regression an aging pattern would take off a touchdown-heavy season, with 67 consecutive games played as his one elite stat. The thing it said to watch was the goal-line package once Love arrived: who takes the carry at the two. Sunday the carry at the three was his, and it went nowhere, and the touchdown went to a tight end on the next snap; the carries, 17 of them, were his too. One game does not settle a goal-line job either way. Arizona is home to the Seahawks on Sunday the twentieth.
