Bijan Robinson — Week 3: Twenty-Nine Carries, Two Touchdowns

Robinson carried a career-high 29 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns, 11 first downs and 19 successful runs, with a 55-yard run to the Green Bay 5 that set up his first score, and caught both targets for 19. Atlanta ran 39 times to 25 pass plays, and 29 of the 39 went to him, in a 35–14 win over the Packers.

Seven to nothing, Packers, three oh six left in the first quarter, first and 10 at the Atlanta 40. Bijan Robinson took it around left end 55 yards to the Green Bay five. +3.7 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 9.1 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. That was the largest win-probability gain on any Falcons pass or run of the night, and the longest run by either team. Two snaps later, second and three at the three with a minute 35 left, Robinson went off left tackle for the touchdown that tied it, and Atlanta never trailed again.
The line: 29 carries, a hundred 94 yards, two touchdowns, 11 first downs, 19 of the 29 successful, +8.7 expected points on the carries; two targets, two catches, 19 yards. The carries went four, seven, three, −1, 55, two, three, four, nothing, eight, 10, three, 10, six, −3, six, 31, one, six, three, nine, three, −1, five, three, four, nine, two, two. 15 before halftime for a hundred 11 yards, 14 after for 83. The 31 was second and four at the Atlanta 14 with nine 21 left in the third, up 17 to seven, pushed out at the 45. Five carries started at or inside the Green Bay five and two of them scored: the three-yarder in the first quarter, and a two-yarder from the two with three 35 left in the game, after a nine and a two had brought him there from the 13, for the last touchdown of the night; a two-point throw after it made it 35 to 14. His one third-down carry was third and two at the Atlanta 41 with six 44 left in the fourth, left guard for four and the first down. A nine-yard run with 55 seconds left in the third came back on a holding call. The catches were 17 yards on second and six on the first drive and two yards in the third quarter.
The split: 39 Falcons designed runs, 29 for Robinson and 10 for Brian Robinson. 20 in the first half and 19 in the second. Eight of Bijan Robinson's carries came in the fourth quarter alone, a week after he had none in a fourth quarter. Two targets on 23 Falcons throws with a receiver; Drake London had 10. 29 carries is the most of his career, and the yardage is one short of the hundred 95 he put up against the Rams last December.
Back in June the preview put Robinson third among running backs last season on volume and receiving work rather than touchdowns, under the title "the touchdowns owe him money," with the quarterback room as the caveat. Week 1 was 29 touches with eight catches on 10 targets and the interception that decided the game thrown his way. Week 2 was 19 touches, another interception meant for him, and no fourth-quarter work. Thursday was the opposite shape from both: the targets fell to two, the carries rose to 29, and the two touchdowns are one more than he had scored in the first two weeks combined, on the night Michael Penix, one of the two quarterbacks in the preview's caveat, finally played. Atlanta is at the Saints on Monday the fifth.
