32 to 26, Panthers, against the Lions, three 16 left in the fourth quarter, third and 14 at the Carolina 32. An 11-yard catch by McMillan on second and nine had been wiped out by an illegal formation flag, and an incompletion to Chuba Hubbard made it third and 14. Bryce Young threw deep right to Tetairoa McMillan, who was pushed out at midfield after 18 yards and a first down. +2.1 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 4.9 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Detroit had to spend its last two timeouts over the next two snaps, and when Carolina punted, the Lions got the ball back at their own 13 with two oh six left and none.

The line: 29 of 41, 329 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, three sacks, and +20.5 expected points on 44 pass plays, his highest figure of the four games. Both touchdowns went to McMillan: 32 yards deep right on second and 10 in the second quarter, two snaps after Young converted fourth and four with a 10-yarder to John Metchie, and 10 yards over the middle in the third to break a 16-all tie. The other fourth down was fourth and four at the Detroit 37 early in the fourth, nine yards to Darren Waller. On third down he had nine pass plays and four conversions. Three throws traveled 20 or more yards in the air and one was caught, the first touchdown. 16 of his 39 throws with a receiver went to McMillan.

Back in June the preview's read on Young was a floor built on durability rather than on efficiency or touchdown volume. Weeks 1 and 2 were +15.5 and +11.1 through the air; last week in Cleveland was −5.9. This week answered that game. Weeks 1 through 3: 72 of a hundred 21, 939 yards, seven touchdowns, two interceptions. Four games: a hundred one of a hundred 62, 1268 yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions, 10 sacks. Three good passing games out of four is a different read than the June floor, and four games settle little.
