CeeDee Lamb Camp Update — August 23: No Preseason Snaps by Design
2026 NFL Season · Sunday, Aug 23
CeeDee Lamb worked a normal week in Oxnard, drew no injury reporting, and sat the preseason win in Arizona with the rest of the front-line offense. The week's practice headlines went to others, and the red-zone pecking-order question stayed uncharted.

CeeDee Lamb's week was the quiet kind Dallas planned for him: a full week of camp with no injury reporting attached to his name, and no snaps in Saturday's 34 to 13 preseason win in Arizona, where most starters on both sides rested, per the Associated Press — Brian Schottenheimer has said outright the team is not going to play many starters this preseason, per Grant Afseth at Dallas Sports Journal. In Tuesday's joint practice against the Saints, the offensive highlights that got written up belonged to others — George Pickens' leaping deep-ball catch from Dak Prescott, standout days from Ryan Flournoy and Jake Ferguson, per Randy Gurzi at Cowboys On SI — and Prescott's three red-zone touchdowns on six snaps, per Adam Schultz at Roundtable, came without any reporter logging who caught them. So the question of where Lamb sits in the red-zone pecking order with Pickens on the field collected no new evidence either way.
Back in June we built the Lamb file on two numbers: a nine-targets-a-game workload he has held for years, among the stickiest in football, and last season's three touchdowns on well over a hundred targets, a starvation rate that history tends to un-write. A week of being healthy, present, and rested on purpose asks nothing of either number — the first live red-zone evidence of camp, two scores from Prescott at the Rams practice, already sits a week behind him, and nothing since has cut the other way.
The checkable things: whether Lamb plays at all in the preseason finale before rosters cut to 53 on Sunday, August 30, and any charted red-zone period that says who eats first when he and Pickens are on the field together. We'll check after cut day.
