C.J. Stroud ran an efficient game without a turnover against the Titans: 26 of 34, 261 yards, a touchdown pass, a touchdown run and no interceptions. He was worth +10.5 expected points added (EPA) on 36 dropbacks, +0.29 per dropback. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
The throw that set up his own score came early in the third quarter. Up 12-3, third and 11 at the Houston 36, he threw deep right to Kayshon Boutte, who was pushed out at the Tennessee 41 after 23 yards: +3.2 EPA. The drive reached the 2, and on second and 2 Stroud ran it in around right end for a 19-3 lead.
He closed the scoring early in the fourth quarter. Third and 8 at the Tennessee 9, he found Jaylin Noel short left for the touchdown, +3.2 EPA and 26-3. His most valuable throw by win probability came in the first quarter, down 3-0: third and 2 at the Houston 44, 14 yards over the middle to Dalton Schultz, +9.1 points.
The accuracy stood out against his baseline. His completion percentage over expected (CPOE), completions against what the throws' difficulty predicted, was +10.0, after +0.7 through Week 4. Weeks 1 through 4 brought +15.1 EPA on 166 dropbacks, +0.09 per dropback, and 12 sacks; he took 2 here.
