Courtland Sutton was a small part of Denver's passing game against the Seahawks, but both his catches moved the chains: 3 targets, 2 catches, 19 yards, +1.0 expected points added (EPA) on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
The one that counted came with 24 seconds left in the first quarter, down 3-0. Third and 6 at the Seattle 27: Bo Nix threw short over the middle and Sutton caught it for 9 yards to the 18, +1.6 EPA and +4.2 points of win probability. J.K. Dobbins finished the drive with a touchdown for a 7-3 lead. Sutton's 10-yarder came on the first snap of the second half; a deep throw to him on third and 7 from the Denver 13 fell incomplete late in the third quarter.
It was a positive day against a negative start. Through Week 5 he had 25 targets, 11 catches, 104 yards, 1 touchdown and -10.7 EPA.
