Courtland Sutton caught 3 of 5 targets for 45 yards against the Cardinals, worth +1.3 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, in Denver's 30-16 win at Arizona.
He opened the game. On Denver's first snap from scrimmage, first and 10 at his own 41, he caught a deep ball over the middle for 20 yards to the Arizona 39, +1.48 EPA and 5.7 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win; the drive ended in Wil Lutz's 48-yard field goal. Up 27-13 in the fourth, second and 9 at the Arizona 32, his 19-yard catch on the right reached the 13, +1.65 EPA. The next third-down throw to him fell incomplete, and Denver kicked a field goal.
Per target it was a turn from his season. Through Week 6 he had 28 targets, 13 catches, 123 yards, 1 touchdown and -9.7 EPA, -0.35 a target; here it was +0.25, and the 45 yards were more than a third of his season total to that point.
