George Pickens had his best game of the season against the Buccaneers: 13 targets, 9 catches, 130 yards, 1 touchdown, +6.4 expected points added (EPA) on his targets. EPA is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position.
The defining catch came with Dallas down 24-10 and 5:30 left. Second and 10 at the Tampa Bay 18: Dak Prescott threw deep left and Pickens caught it in the end zone, +2.6 EPA and his first touchdown of the season. The drive had started at the Dallas 1, and he had catches of 13 and 20 yards on the way. The two-point try failed, and it stayed 24-16.
His most valuable snap came earlier. Down 14-10 early in the third quarter, third and 3 at the Dallas 39, he took a short pass to the left 27 yards to the Tampa Bay 34: +2.5 EPA and +8.6 points of win probability. Three of his four incompletions came on third down.
13 targets were 31% of Prescott's 42 attempts, after 6, 8, 11 and 3 in Weeks 1 through 4, when he had 225 yards and no touchdowns. Five games: 41 targets, 27 catches, 355 yards, 1 touchdown.
