14 to seven, Chiefs, 14 15 left in the third quarter, second and eight at the Miami 28. Malik Willis threw deep middle to Greg Dulcich, 38 yards in the air, and Dulcich was brought down at the Kansas City 30, 42 yards. +3.3 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and 9.7 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the largest gain on any Miami pass or run of the game. The drive reached the 11, lost a Malik Washington touchdown from the 14 to an illegal shift, and ended in a field goal.
The line: seven targets, five catches, 55 yards, no touchdown, one first down, +0.8 expected points on the targets. The catches went seven, five, 42, −5 six. The −5 came on the snap after the wiped-out touchdown, second and 18 at the Kansas City 19. His one third-down target, third and five at the Miami 48 with six-oh-five left, down 17 to 10, fell incomplete, and Miami failed on fourth down on the next snap. A throw intended for him with 47 seconds left was intercepted, and a penalty on Kansas City erased it. The other incompletion was deep left at the Kansas City 30. Seven targets tied Chris Bell for second on the team, behind Washington's 10, on 35 Willis credited to a receiver. The rookie tight end Will Kacmarek had none credited; his one catch, nine yards in the first quarter, came back on a penalty on Miami.
Back in June the preview made no call on Dulcich — a one-year prove-it deal at the top of a tight-end room Miami had crowded with two drafted rookies — and said to watch the battle with Kacmarek and where Willis's short throws land. Week 1 was two targets and the episode said the number to watch was two. Week 2 it was three. Sunday it was seven, his most of the season, and the split in the room went seven to none. Three games: 12 targets, nine catches, 90 yards. The order has held three times and the volume moved; three games settle little about how much of it lasts. Miami is at the Vikings on Sunday the fourth.
