Jordan Love played one series in Denver on Friday night and finished it in the end zone: five of seven for 56 yards, capped by an 11-yard touchdown to MarShawn Lloyd on a choice route, per Mike Spofford at the team's website, in what became a 33 to 13 Packers win. The completions we can itemize were a 15-yard slant to Christian Watson on the opening drive, per Wes Hodkiewicz and Mike Spofford in the team's in-game file, and a 20-yard conversion to Matthew Golden on fourth-and-one, per Rob Reischel at Forbes. Love afterward: "The drive we had tonight, ended on a great note. Guys executing on a lot of levels right there." Wendell Ferreira at A to Z Sports singled out the pre-snap part — Love diagnosing Denver's pressures and resetting protections before the touchdown throw.
The practice week behind it was busier than the game. Love called Tuesday "up there with one of the better days" of his camp, per Bill Huber at Packers On SI, though the starters' two-minute drill ended when a pass intended for Watson was deflected and intercepted by Zaire Franklin. Wednesday's third-down period against the starting defense went better: a touchdown to Tucker Kraft — in team drills for the first time in this reporting — and a catch-and-run to Jayden Reed, against one Watson drop, per Huber. And the supporting cast kept filling in: Josh Jacobs and left guard Aaron Banks returned to practice Tuesday, per Huber, though both sat the game.
Our June preview argued that Love's ceiling this season is less about Love — two nearly identical years say what he is — than about the environment of Kraft's knee, Golden's second year and a settled receiver room, and that environment kept assembling on schedule this week. Watch next whether Love plays in the preseason finale at all or has seen his last snaps before the opener, and whether Kraft and Jacobs are practicing without restriction when the roster cuts to 53 on Sunday, August 30. We'll check after cut day.
