Six to nothing, Vikings, five 50 left in the second quarter, second and eight at the Miami 48. Malik Willis threw short left toward Jaylen Wright, and it was ruled incomplete. Minnesota challenged, and the replay made it a sack: Turner brought him down for nine yards and knocked the ball loose, and the Vikings recovered at midfield. −4.7 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −9.9 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the costliest Miami snap of the day.
The line: nine of 17, 85 yards, no touchdown, no interception, two sacks, −12.4 expected points on 19 pass plays. Six of 10 for 45 yards and both sacks before halftime; three of seven for 40 after it. On third down he threw five times, completed none, and was sacked on a sixth, third and four in the first quarter. His three throws of 20 yards or more in the air, two for Chris Bell and one for Kevin Coleman Jr., all fell incomplete. The best of it was two 17-yarders to Malik Washington on the drive to Ollie Gordon's touchdown. He ran twice for 11 yards, and both moved the chains: an eight-yard scramble on third and five, and a three-yard run with a 15-yard roughing penalty on Minnesota added.
The ball went five times to Washington, four to Kevin Coleman Jr. and three to Bell. Miami ran 37 pass and run plays to Minnesota's 69.
Back in June the preview called Willis a watchlist: a declared starter with six career starts, the legs as the whole profile, and a passing efficiency that had never been tested over a season. 17 throws was his fewest of the four games, after 27, 23 36. Four games: 58 of a hundred three, 712 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, 11 sacks, 19 runs for a hundred 12 yards. The test is four games old, and Sunday was the hardest week of it.
