Saquon Barkley came back against the Cowboys, in his first game since Week 4, and made his carries count: 7 for 62 yards and a touchdown, worth +3.1 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position. He caught both of his targets for 9 yards.
The run that set the tone came on the Eagles' second snap: first and 10 at the Philadelphia 37, down 3-0, he went off left tackle for 29 yards before running out of bounds at the Dallas 34, +1.7 EPA. Two plays later, first and 5 at the 8, he went around right end for the touchdown and a 7-3 lead. Two carries from the Dallas 12 to open the second quarter gained 3 yards, and Dameon Pierce scored after a roughing-the-passer penalty.
The ball went elsewhere after that. His 12-yard run opened the second half, and it was his last counted carry; a 5-yard run late in the third was wiped out by holding. In the second quarter, down 17-14 on second and 2, a short catch lost 3 yards, -1.2 EPA, and the drive ended in a punt.
It was his first rushing touchdown of the season. Through Week 4 he had 36 carries for 182 yards, 5.1 a carry, and EPA that netted to zero; here it was 8.9 a carry and +0.45.
