Saquon Barkley scored Philadelphia's only touchdown against the Commanders and found little else on the ground: 13 carries for 30 yards in a 27-10 loss on the road, none longer than 5 yards. His designed carries were worth -2.1 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, -0.16 a carry, and 4 of the 13 were successful plays, meaning they gained what the situation asked for.
His best moment came through the air. Up 3-0 in the first quarter, one snap after Washington's fumble, first and 10 at the Washington 26, Tanner McKee threw deep left and Barkley caught it for 24 yards to the 2, +2.0 EPA. He lost a yard on the next snap, then took a direct snap around right end for a 3-yard touchdown and a 10-0 lead. That one catch was more receiving yardage than his 17 across six catches through Week 7. Tied 10-10 in the second quarter, Tim Settle dropped him for a 4-yard loss on first and 10 at the Philadelphia 46, and the drive ended in a punt.
It was well short of his season. Through Week 7 he was at +0.07 a carry, +3.1 EPA on 43 carries, with 41.9% successful; here it was -0.16 and 30.8%. A week earlier against Dallas he ran 7 times for 62 yards and a touchdown.
