Nothing to nothing, six 25 left in the first quarter against the Bengals, third and 18 at the Jacksonville 11, one snap after a seven-yard sack. Trevor Lawrence threw short over the middle to Brenton Strange for 23 yards to the 34. +3.2 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and nine points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Two snaps later he went deep middle to Jakobi Meyers for 22, and the drive ended in a 55-yard field goal, the first points of the game.

The line: 18 of 23, 227 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, four sacks, and Jacksonville's 27 pass plays were worth +10.2 expected points. Nine of 11 for 91 yards before halftime, nine of 12 for a hundred 36 after. The touchdown was seven yards to Brian Thomas on second and seven with a minute 27 left in the half. On third down he threw eight times and completed six, and three moved the chains: the 23 to Strange, seven to Meyers on third and six in the third quarter, and 15 to Strange on third and eight with two 34 left, up five, which made Cincinnati spend its last two timeouts. He also ran for two on third and one in the fourth quarter, on the drive that ended in Chris Rodriguez's touchdown.

The split: Strange eight targets, Meyers four, Parker Washington three, and two each for Thomas, Josh Cameron, Nate Boerkircher and Bhayshul Tuten.

Back in June the preview called Lawrence a most valuable player finalist, with a rushing floor and two cautions: nine rushing touchdowns likely to fall back, and accuracy that had been ordinary. Four games: 72 of a hundred four, 843 yards, eight touchdowns, two interceptions, and 11 runs for 34 yards with no rushing touchdown. 18 of 23 is the same completion line as his Week 1. The four sacks match his first three games combined.
