Nothing to nothing, 14 10 left in the first quarter, third and one at the Seattle 48, the third snap of the game. Tyler Allgeier went off left tackle and lost a yard. −2.3 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −5.7 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it, the largest loss on any Arizona pass or run all day. Arizona punted, and two snaps later Seattle scored from 82 yards out.
The line: five carries, 10 yards, no touchdown, two first downs, one of the five successful, −2.8 expected points on the carries; two targets, two catches, nine yards, the same receiving line as Week 1. The carries went −1; two on second and one, a first down; three on second and three, a first down; five from the Arizona three; and one. Both first downs came on the first-quarter drive that ended in Arizona's only touchdown. Four carries before halftime, one after, and his last touch was a four-yard catch with four oh one left in the third quarter. He had three carries needing three yards or fewer and moved the chains on two of them. None of his carries started inside the Seattle 40.
The split: Jeremiyah Love nine designed runs, Allgeier five, Bam Knight two on the final possession. Arizona called 12 designed runs before halftime and four after. It ran three plays inside the Seattle 10 — an incompletion, a Jacoby Brissett scramble and the fourth-down touchdown pass to Trey McBride — and the carry from the 10 before them was Love's.
Back in June the preview made no call on Allgeier — a price it said had already paid for the regression coming off a touchdown-heavy season in Atlanta — and the thing it said to watch was the goal-line package once Love arrived. Week 1 he led the team with 17 carries, and the one at the three went nowhere. Sunday he had five, and when Arizona got to the 10 it did not hand it to him. Through two games it is Allgeier 22 carries for 71 yards and Love 20 for 70, a near-even rotation, in one game Arizona won and one it trailed by 10 or more from the middle of the third quarter. Two games settle little. Arizona is at the 49ers on Sunday the 20-seventh.
