14 to nothing, 49ers, four 29 left in the second quarter, first and goal at the San Francisco nine, one snap after Michael Wilson's fourth-down catch. Tyler Allgeier went behind the right guard and lost three, with Fred Warner credited on the tackle. −0.9 expected points added — expected points added is what a play was worth given down, distance and field position — and −2.2 points of win probability, the chance of winning the game after the play against before it. Two more snaps and Arizona kicked the field goal that made it 14 to three.
The line: two carries, −1 yard, neither successful, −1.1 expected points on the carries; four targets, four catches, 10 yards, one first down, −0.6 on the targets. The other carry was two yards off left tackle on first and 10 at the San Francisco 34 with eight 15 left in the third quarter, his last touch of the day. Every one of the catches came behind the line of scrimmage. The first was five yards on third and three from the Arizona 34 on the opening drive, converted. Then five on second and 20, pushed out at the San Francisco 41; four on third and 13 early in the second quarter, short, and Arizona punted; and −4 on second and 10 at the San Francisco 19 with 36 seconds left in the half, before the field goal that made it 14 to six. All four targets came before halftime.
The split: 27 Arizona designed runs, 21 to Jeremiyah Love, four to Jacoby Brissett, two to Allgeier. By touches it was Love 26, Allgeier six.
Back in June the preview made no call on Allgeier — the regression coming off a touchdown-heavy season in Atlanta, it said, was already expected — and the thing it said to watch was the goal-line package once Love arrived. Week 1 he led the team with 17 carries, and the one at the three went nowhere. Week 2 he had five, and through two games the split was 22 to Love's 20. Sunday it was two to 21. Three games: 24 carries for 70 yards. At the goal line Sunday, Arizona sneaked with Brissett twice from the one and threw once, and Allgeier's one carry inside the 10 lost three. Three games settle little, and this one moved sharply away from him. Arizona is at the Giants on Sunday the fourth.
