Tyler Allgeier — Week 8: 147 Yards and Two Scores

Tyler Allgeier had the biggest game of his season against the Cowboys: 11 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown, plus 5 catches on 5 targets for 44 yards and a second score. His carries were worth +7.9 expected points added (EPA), what a play was worth given down, distance and field position, or +0.72 a carry. Only 4 of the 11 were successful runs, meaning they gained what the situation asked for; two of them did most of the work.

The first came down 17-3 with 1:10 left in the third quarter, on Gardner Minshew's second snap: second and 3 at the Arizona 37, Allgeier went up the middle for a 63-yard touchdown, +5.3 EPA and 9.8 points of win probability, the estimate of each side's chance to win. Down 24-10, the next drive opened with his 52-yard run around left end to the Dallas 28, +3.5 EPA. He finished that drive himself: a 17-yard catch on third and 2 to the 3, then, after two false starts, a 5-yard touchdown catch on third and goal at the 5.

In overtime, after Michael Wilson's 17-yard run moved the chains, Allgeier carried four straight times for 18 yards, starting with an 11-yarder, and set up Chad Ryland's 42-yard winner.

The day turned his season over. Through Week 7 he had 61 carries for 176 yards and -14.2 EPA, -0.23 a carry, and his longest single-game total was 61 yards. His receiving EPA was +3.8 on 5 targets, after -1.4 on 17 through Week 7.
